CNAG – The Institute
The Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (CNAG) is one of the largest Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe.
The CNAG carries out projects in DNA/RNA analysis for the improvement of quality of life in collaboration with the Spanish, European and International Research Community. CNAG researchers participate in major International Genome Initiatives such as the Human Cell Atlas (HCA), the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC), the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC), the European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA) and the European Infrastructure for life-science information (ELIXIR), as well as in many EU-funded projects.
CNAG occupies approximately 1,500 m2 of laboratory and office space and operates 4 Illumina instruments (3 NovaSeq6000 and 1 MiSeq) and 2 large Oxford Nanopore Technologies sequencers (1 PromethION 24 and 1 GridION) that produce more than 7 Tbases of sequencing data per day. The sequencing operation is supported by an extensive informatics infrastructure: 15 petabyte of data storage, 10.000 computing cores and an internal 56 Gb/s network. The operation is certified ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and accredited ISO 17025 and serves to deliver standardized, high-quality data for research and clinics. CNAG is involved in projects ranging from cancer to rare diseases and immune-mediated diseases. For this, a sophisticated pipeline for data production, data analysis and data management is in place. CNAG also has a highly developed single-cell operation equipped with a 10x Chromium X, 10x Chromium Connect, MissionBio Tapestri for individual cell analyses and for tissue analysis a Nanostring CosMx, 10x Genomics Visium, 10x Genomics Xenium and Stereo-seq.
Another specialty of CNAG is the analysis of single molecules.
CNAG has a team of 120 highly-talented professionals from 23 countries, including nine research groups and two large technology development/implementation units supported by a flexible and efficient administration.

The RoleWe have an opening for a Senior Strategy Officer within the CNAG Strategy Coordination & Project Management Team to coordinate activities within the EU funded project, EASIGEN-DS, led by CNAG's Director, Ivo Gut. The EASIGEN-DS consortium brings together a network of eleven top European genomics facilities, as well as four partners with expertise in data stewardship, ethical, legal and social implications, socio-economic impact and innovation.
The project aims at developing a scientifically excellent research design and a robust and efficient operational framework for a new European distributed Research Infrastructure on Advanced Genomics Technologies.
The successful candidate will coordinate the implementation of the EASIGEN-DS project, in a stimulating scientific environment. She/he will report to the CNAG Strategy Coordinator and work closely with CNAG's director, other members of the EASIGEN-DS Consortium and project stakeholders.
Main tasks and responsibilitiesDevelop and implement a multi-actor project engagement strategy. Coordinate the preparation of communication and dissemination materials for different stakeholders.Organize and support consultative processes involving several stakeholders (life science researchers, bioindustry, managers at research infrastructures, and policy makers) across the project: on-line questionnaires, individual interviews and workshops.Coordinate the development of plans for the scientific and operational cases of the new European distributed Research Infrastructure on Advanced Genomics Technologies. Support several genomic landscape studies within the project.Support several proof-of-concept activities such as interlaboratory comparison tests and the deposition of the results in public repositories, following specific workflows.Coordinate and contribute to the writing of project technical reports and other project documentation.Monitor the progress of the implementation of the project and the key events, observing the work plan. Identify and address potential risks.Direct interaction with the EASIGEN-DS principal investigators and project managers, as well as with CNAG researchers and technical staff to keep abreast of new genomic applications and technologies.Contribute to raising additional funds and preparing new grant applications.About the team/ lab/ departmentThe successful candidate will be integrated into the CNAG Strategy Coordination & Project Management Team, led by Dr. Mònica Bayés and composed of three specialists. The team works in a stimulating scientific environment, contributing to international breakthrough research projects in Genomics that will impact people's quality of life. The team has a diversified job content at the interface of science, technology and management, offering continuous growth and support on a professional level.
Whom would we like to hire?PhD in a science field.Good knowledge of genomic technologies, genomics service provision, and/or policies for Research Infrastructures in Europe.Proven ability to effectively interact with multiple stakeholders on an interdisciplinary level and the ability to move between the scientific and managerial level.Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.Experience in writing scientific proposals, project reports, policy papers, and/or scientific reviews.Experience with multiple deadlines, planning skills and ability to prioritize on multiple tasks, services, collaborations with partners and comply with external requirements by funders, organisational rules etc.Excellent soft skills/people skills.Desirable but not requiredExperience with supporting projects funded by the European Commission.Knowledge of the workings of Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) and Research Funding Organisations in Europe.Knowledge of the ESFRI Roadmap.Experience in engaging with or starting a community.The OfferContract duration: 3 years.Estimated annual gross salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and consistent with our pay scales.Target start date: December 2024 / January 2025.We provide a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructures, and unique professional career development opportunities.
