Rheinmetall Expal Munitions S.A.U. in Madrid The purpose of the job is to take responsibility for all propellant and liner formulations used in rocket motors or base bleed propellants, both for composite propellants as well as for Cross Linked Double Base (XLDB) propellants. You will work closely with the responsible quality assurance and propellant production staff, as well as the rocket engineer, to ensure propellant formulations are manufactured according to mixing sheets and that the final propellant complies with burn rate and mechanical specifications. Key Performance Areas: Serve as the single point of contact and responsibility to ensure propellant and liner technology, formulations, and manufacturing technology are transferred from external organizations in the case of Technology Transfer contracts for rocket motors. Provide a technical support service to the Manufacturing Department during series production, including the design of formulations before the start of series production, managing document changes and non-conformances, and solving technical problems by leading and conducting investigations and industrializing new materials and/or processes. Direct and control activities between the pilot/production plants, laboratories, and test facilities. Develop new propellant and liner formulations within quality, schedule, and cost constraints. Develop or acquire the technology to bond propellants to insulation and other materials. Develop documentation to capture mixing, casting, and curing instructions for use on production plants. Develop and expand the technical know-how base and capabilities for composite propellant technology as well as XLDB in Rheinmetall Expal Munitions to support current and future programs. Participate in design reviews and technical project meetings to ensure low-risk designs and achievement of cost objectives and milestone schedules. Location: Presence in Burgos, Spain. WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or Polymer Science as a minimum qualification. A postgraduate qualification such as a Master's degree is preferred. At least 3 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing company, preferably in an explosive environment. Experience in formulating composite rocket propellants is highly recommended. Experience in a military explosive-related environment will be an advantage. An understanding of the risks associated with explosives and propellants, or the processing of dangerous materials. A formal qualification, training, or demonstrated experience in explosives safety will be advantageous. Ability to work independently as well as in a team in a matrix organization.
