NoOffer Description PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS: Silvia Bolado Rodríguez & Israel Díaz VillalobosRESEARCH CENTER: Institute of Sustainable Processes – University of ValladolidPROJECT TITLE: Sustainable Extraction of Valuable Bioproducts from Sewage Sludge: Analyzing Chemical and Biological Risks (SafeWW)PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project addresses an important challenge in our society, which is the safe and sustainable recovery of valuable components accumulated in an abundant and constantly growing waste stream, the sludge generated in wastewater treatment plants.We are seeking a highly motivated MSc who will be hired as a PhD student. Expertise in molecular biology, including qPCR, databases, and bioinformatics, as well as microbiology and public health is desired. However, candidates with expertise in chemical/environmental engineering are also welcome. The student will:Receive training in chemical engineering and analytical chemistry to handle the specialized process of recovering biomolecules using unconventional solvents.Contribute to the scientific and technical aspects of the project, bridging molecular biology with process engineering and analytical chemistry.Perform experiments on biomolecule extraction using novel solvents and purification techniques.Operate lab-scale anaerobic digesters and perform thermal hydrolysis.Prepare scientific articles, reports, and presentations throughout the PhD studies.DURATION: 4 yearsANNUAL GROSS SALARY: 17.000-24.000 EURREQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biology or Chemical Engineering.Oral and written communication skills in English.Candidates should be motivated by research and professional development, with a serious and committed approach to their work responsibilities.Project Reference within the call document is: PID2023-153356OB-I00.Candidates can contact ****** with CV for guidance on the process of application at UVA website.
