JOB DESCRIPTION
The Clinical Genomics Research group focuses on the development of new tools for genetic diagnosis and also on building the foundations of a personalized medicine strategy for Neurofibromatosis and Schwannomatosis. We are a multidisciplinary team that carries out both translational and clinical research as we are members of the Genetics Service of the Germans Trias & Pujol Hospital and the Spanish Reference Center for Phacomatosis.
The group is leading the Spanish reference center for Neurofibromatosis (CSUR of Phakomatosis) and the European network for hereditary diseases with a predisposition to develop tumours (GENTURIS). Our lines of research are: 1) development of new methodologies to improve current genetic testing; 2) massive genotyping to establish the personalized risk for specific diseases (Polygenic Risk Score); 3) to study the contribution of the NF2 gene in the progression of schwannomas and meningiomas; 4) to develop a personalized therapy for patients with NF2-related Schwannomatosis.
We are looking for an emergent researcher that could coordinate the whole team, and also the different international projects the group is participating in, such as the international expert group ClinGen (NIH) to develop clinical guidelines for the proper classification of genetic variants in genes associated with the diseases previously discussed.
We are looking for an organized, motivated emergent researcher, with experience in leading international projects and also groups up to 10 people to lead the research area of the team, and also expertise in molecular biology, genetics and gene therapy.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The following requirements are mandatory:
Degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics or similar, if possible, with high human genetics knowledge. Applicants with degrees in other life sciences will be considered providing they can demonstrate expertise in human genetics.
Doctoral degree in biology, genetics or similar. Other doctorates will be valued as long as they are related to the laboratory's projects.
Participation and leading national and international projects.
Good international network in the field of Neurofibromatosis and Schwannomatosis.
Expert in molecular biology techniques, genetic testing, genomic data analysis and genetic therapies techniques.
Fluent English.
Candidates must be highly motivated, proactive and independent, with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
Good organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Principal investigator of the Clinical Genomics Unit, you will mainly lead the group's projects related to personalized medicine for patients with NF2-associated Schwannomatosis (gene therapy, genotype-phenotype studies) under the supervision of the director of CSUR, although it is requested to collaborate in the different projects in progress in the Clinical Unit led by clinical members, research activities and publications.
You will actively review, design and supervise the implementation of new protocols to improve the genetic testing and primary and stem cell culture techniques available in the laboratory.
To write, review and apply for different grant opportunities inside the CSUR and international consortium the group participates, as well, lead all publications from the research group.
You will interact with experts in medicine, genetics and bioinformatics to jointly evaluate the different designs, projects, protocols, results obtained, etc., participating in periodic group meetings to understand clinical and research needs and improve the experiments that are required.

The annual gross remuneration inherent to the position that is the subject of this call will be set based on the experience provided and the skills of the candidate, distributed in 12 payments.
