Utopia Design Studio are looking for a Lead Concept Architect to join the team. This is a remote position, with occasional travel to London and other destinations.
We are an early-stage Design Studio of engineers, architects and interior designers and strive to create a welcoming and enjoyable place for us all to work.
The Lead Concept Architect will oversee multiple Architecture. interior design projects, ensuring seamless execution and communication. This person will manage and guide the team to deliver exceptional results, act as the primary point of contact for clients and project managers, and maintain control over timelines, budgets, and deliverables. Both Creativity and project management skills are essential, along with expertise in documenting every phase of the design process.
Responsibilites:
- Project Leadership & Client Management
- Lead the overall design project, including the Architecture, Interior design from concept development through construction documentation and execution with the support of the broader team;
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, project managers, and suppliers;
- Lead client meetings, addressing complex questions effectively;
- Manage client relationships to ensure alignment with company values;
- Coordinate contractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of projects;
- Set project programs and manage deadlines.
- Design and Technical Execution
- Prepare site studies, mood boards, schemes, and presentations;
- Develop architectural and interior design concepts that ensure a high-end user experience, incorporating local or bespoke elements.
- Generate innovative architectural solutions to meet project goals and constraints, including sustainability, functionality, and aesthetic value.
- Responsible for overseeing the selection, procurement, and installation of FF&E to ensure design consistency, budget adherence, and timely project delivery.
- Responsible of the production of clear and accurate technical drawings and design documentation.
- Budgeting & Procurement
- Oversee budget creation and management;
- Coordinate procurement processes, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality;
- Manage vendor negotiations and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
- Team Leadership
- Support the design team in executing projects, ensuring optimal use of resources;
- Monitor and report on design schedules and deliverables, making necessary adjustments to keep projects on track;
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members;
- Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to the team.
- Project Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with the Head of Design and Project Managers to plan and monitor design deliverables.
- Monitor scope creep and track additional services, reporting to clients when needed.
- Act as a liaison between the design team and external consultants.
- Oversee the document control process, ensuring all design information is organized and distributed correctly.
- Interface with internal and external teams to ensure operational requirements are incorporated.
Requirements
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- Degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Project Management Studies, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in Architecture and project management, focusing on high-end projects in hospitality, commercial, and residential sectors.
- Proven ability to lead design projects, from concept design to execution and installation.
- Proficiency Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp, or other sketch-oriented presentation software like Rhino, Lumion, or Enscape.
- Familiarity with FF&E procurement and budget management.
- Strong negotiation skills and proven experience working with contractors and suppliers.
- Solid understanding of project management processes and tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with clients and stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of hospitality design and construction, including space planning, FF&E, and finishing and construction materials.
- Familiarity with building regulations related to construction.
- Understanding of RIBA Design phases and processes, including consultants' practices and project scopes.
Nice to haves:
- Experience managing remote teams is a plus.
- Knowledge of Spanish or Russian is an advantage.
