Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011. The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people's quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 27 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the "Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya" (CERCA). IRB Barcelona is seeking an International Project Manager to join its International Strategic Support Office (ISS).
The ISS's main missions are to attract funding from international collaborative projects, mainly from the EU's Horizon 2020 (H2020) and Horizon Europe (HE) Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation. IRB Barcelona currently coordinates several projects funded under different EU schemes and work programmes, including Health, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks (MSCA-ITN), and Science with and for Society (Swafs). Our international project managers play key roles in the promotion of new coordinated proposals. They work closely with the Pre-Award Office, the Innovation Department, and Group Leaders (GLs) on the different stages of proposal preparation, including the following:
Identification of funding opportunities;Matchmaking between topics and research lines at IRB Barcelona;Partner search;Coordination of the consortium during proposal preparation;Writing of specific sections of the proposal, with a focus on impact.Once a proposal has been awarded funding, an International Project Manager is assigned to assist the GL with coordinating the consortium.
- Support the implementation of EU collaborative projects coordinated by IRB Barcelona, including a large project recently funded under the Health Cluster of HE's Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness pillar and a MSCA-ITN project. Duties include the organisation of management meetings and training activities, communication and dissemination tasks, compliance with RRI policies, monitoring of milestone achievement, and timely delivery of reports.
- Under the supervision of the Head of the ISS, manage coordinated institutional EU projects aimed at enhancing IRB Barcelona's training programme, with a focus on Open Science.
- Screen international funding opportunities, with a particular emphasis on the EU's HE Work Programmes. Attend Info days, partnering and matchmaking events, information sessions, etc.
- Identify and promote the calls that best match the expertise of IRB Barcelona research groups. To this end, she/he will be expected to become familiar with the research lines developed at IRB Barcelona, by attending seminars, reviewing published articles, etc.
- Support IRB Barcelona researchers with the preparation and writing of proposals. The tasks include definition of project goals, partner search, coordination with project partners, preparation of budget, and advising on and writing specific sections of the proposal.
