Inspector
JOB PURPOSE
The Inspector performs basic and or complex inspection work depending on his experience in petroleum, petrochemical, gas, grain, oils and fats terminals and refineries; also performs inspection work on board barges and ships following industry standards and the procedures published by API, Fosfa, Gafta and Saybolt.
General Responsibilities
Assist other inspectors from the department and Operations department in his responsibility duties of the location.
Responsible for the efficient work within the location to meet client needs accurately and in time.
May work at different locations and on offshore operations as requested by the company.
Responsible for running the operation at the lowest possible costs while meeting the requirements for safety, quality of service, and maintenance of assets.
Ensure full cooperation with his department and Managers on all assignments.
Follow all company procedures as established by Saybolt and Core Laboratories, including but not limited to HSE Manual, Accounting Policies & Procedures, Saybolt Administration Instruction Letter, IT procedures, Ethics Policy, Saybolt Compliance Code, etc.
Report directly to Operations department.
Competencies
Jobs requiring autonomous execution, usually reasoning initiative by the workers responsible for their execution, acting under supervision or without it, as well as the basic use of English language needed to perform the job.
Perform visual cleanliness inspections of tanks including entering confined spaces.
Verify the accuracy of measurement and sampling equipment.
Work safely in the presence of hazardous materials as defined in the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheets.
Take product measurements and samples; accurately and promptly perform related calculations; complete required reports and forms clearly and promptly; perform inventories; do non-petroleum or chemical inspection assignments.
Perform other inspection department duties assigned by the Manager or Coordinator.
Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in Saybolt procedures manuals, the Global Safety Manual, and Core Laboratories/Saybolt company policies.
Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical, Fosfa, Gafta and gas inspection procedures.
Gain knowledge of basic and advanced laboratory procedures through cross training in laboratory.
Maintain all material and installations in clean and good condition at every moment.
Perform sample disposal and manage the stocks of the materials needed to perform his job.
Certificates, licenses and registrations:
Must have a vehicle in good, safe operating condition for both personal and sample transportation in all ambient weather conditions.
Required to maintain proper levels of automobile liability insurance and meet all state requirements on vehicles used for Saybolt assignments.
Must maintain a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Local travel and occasional out-of-town assignments are required.
Physical demands:
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 Kilograms, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 Kilograms.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment:
Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent (general education degree).
1 year as an Inspector or related experience.
Good verbal and written knowledge of local language and English.
Proficient user of MS Office.
Job Knowledge:
All kind of possible samplings & measurements. Capable to perform any kind of Inspection vessel and shore with a supervision of a higher level Inspector or Account Manager.
Mathematical skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and quantities (linear, volumetric, or weight) and to read and interpolate applicable data and tables.
Social skills:
Good communication skills.
Able to work independently.
Team building skills.
