We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join our pre-opening team at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, set to open in Spring 2025.
Surrounded by natural beauty, the Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca spreads over 3 hectares of landscaped cliff tops and gardens cascading down to the sea, where it offers unique access to two coves surrounded by crystalline waters. The property is ideally located within Calvià, one of the most exclusive municipalities of the island, and close to key attractions such as the Portals port, the historical landmarks of the capital Palma de Mallorca, and the international airport.
Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca will feature 131 guestrooms, including 44 suites and nine bungalows located just a few steps from the waterfront. The spacious accommodation will provide full or partial sea views, outdoor terraces or balconies, some of which offer private panoramic plunge pools. A comprehensive Spa at Mandarin Oriental will offer the Group's signature wellness therapies and beauty treatments, with a focus on local nature-inspired programmes. The spa includes an indoor swimming pool, while three outdoor pools are located across the resort. Guests will also have access to a wide range of water-sports as well as a comprehensive Children's Club.
As a Director of Engineering, you will lead and control all engineering-related activities with a clear focus on providing a balanced service to meet the needs of the physical property, our customers, and colleagues. The incumbent is expected to actively participate in the general day-to-day operation of the department, leading, mentoring, training, and educating the engineering team. The Director of Engineering is responsible for the financial management of the property operation and maintenance expenses and for utilities consumption.
During the pre-opening phase, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for driving the Technical Services divisional critical path including recruitment of the Engineering team, process structuring, and MO standards compliance. The Director of Engineering reports to the General Manager.
The Director of Engineering will be responsible for the following duties: Maintain in a proper and safe condition all buildings, plant, plant rooms, equipment, and front and back of house areas.Establish and implement the "Safe and Sound" procedures such as the Fire, Life, Health, Safety and Security, Emergency and Standard Operating Procedures in compliance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group standards.Ensure all work carried out for the hotel is in compliance with the relevant statutory requirements, regulations, and codes.Perform "Emergency Response Team" duties as required.Directly oversee and control the activities of the Engineering Management Team under his supervision.Oversee the selection of engineering outsourced companies and services.Participate in the formulation of strategic business plans for the hotel.Formulate and implement strategic development for the hotel's involvement in the local community.Develop and implement the preventative maintenance programmes in accordance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.Establish and manage the annual CapEX plan and budget for all aspects of engineering.Oversee the strategic direction of general projects related to the enhancement of the hotel. Project management covers the areas of planning, administration, implementation, and evaluation of financial results of projects.Support the Financial Controller in the hotel's overall financial performance; the annual hotel budget process; the energy and cost consumption; and the engineering contractor's selection and documentation.Support the Director of Human Resources in their strategy for the recruitment and selection of employees; career development programmes for employees; labour cost management; community programmes; and the evaluation and recognition of employees.Support the IT&T Director in telecommunications upgrades and enhancements; annual maintenance of the contingency systems that support IT&T equipment and systems; and the annual testing and conformance of emergency power systems based on Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group guidelines.Support the Operations team on the training and demonstration of various systems such as the key system for guest rooms, audio-visual equipment, lighting, and temperature and control systems, etc.Participate in the Repairs and Maintenance, Project and Risk Management Committee meetings as required.Conduct regular inspections of all front and back of house areas to ensure the quality and standards are maintained at the highest level.Ensure all drawings, manuals, and documentation are updated as and when changes are made.Ensure all certifications, test reports, inspections, and maintenance reports are properly stored and updated.Be fully conversant with all technical details of all plant and services relating to the hotel.Assist engineering personnel with technical advice and ensure standards are maintained.Prepare budgets, forecasts, and costings.Actively assist with energy conservation and control.Maintain contact with local authorities and Government Departments such as the Fire Service Department, Electrical and Mechanical Service Department, Water Supply Department, Building Ordinance Office, Drainage Department, Labour Department, Environmental Protection Department, to ensure that all requirements are being complied with and that assistance or advice will be readily available whenever required.Promote and coordinate all requirements as per MOHG's Fire, Life, Health, Safety and Security guidelines.What are we looking for? A minimum of five years in engineering management, ideally within luxury hospitality.Pre-opening and resort experience is an advantage.Excellent knowledge of major building systems and energy management.Computer literate and an avid user of office automation applications such as Words, Excel, Visio, etc.Excellent written and verbal skills in English and Spanish.
