Reference 2023-256-2 Deadline 16/09/2024 Division Experiments ALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center, currently constructing multiple more beamlines and expanding the Electron Microscopy Center.
Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government and the Catalan Government.
The synchrotron light produced is used by thousands of researchers across various fields, such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage.
Our highly motivated staff works in a multidisciplinary environment with diversity, inclusion, and respect for colleagues.
Facing an upgrade to ALBA II, a 4th generation facility, ALBA is in a phase of growth and dynamics, providing opportunities to explore new territories.
Tasks The Experiments Division of ALBA is seeking a beamline scientist expert in surface diffraction/scattering with knowledge in photoelectron spectroscopy for the new, under construction, Surface Spectroscopy and Structure at 1 bar (3Sbar) beamline.
Your responsibilities will include: Develop your own scientific program in diffraction in combination with X-ray spectroscopy, aligned with the scientific program of the beamline.
Develop innovative hardware and software tools for the 3Sbar beamline.
Provide support to design, construct and install the 3Sbar beamline in collaboration with the group and support staff.
Provide support to the scientific users of the 3Sbar as a Local Contact.
Participate in the beamline research program and national and European projects and collaborations.
Requirements 1) The applicant must have a doctorate degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, or related disciplines.
2) Work experience at a synchrotron light source facility of at least 2 years with X-ray diffraction related techniques (including PhD work).
This position is reserved for candidates with a legal status of person with disabilities, with a degree of disability equal or greater than 33%.
Selection Process Development The selection will be carried out through the competition-opposition system.
An analysis of the curriculum will be carried out, assessing previous experience and scientific history.
Expert in X-ray diffraction (XRD) for interfaces with related techniques in synchrotron facilities and data analysis.
Experience with other hard X-ray related techniques as HAXPES, XANES, or/and EXAFS.
Experience with operando or in situ experiments.
The best-rated candidates will be invited to an interview where technical competence and professional experience will be assessed.
Other information Temporary contract until definitive coverage.
This position requires the incorporation of a beam scientist expert in X-ray diffraction related techniques to lead the activities of the 3Sbar beamline.
